I believe it's one of Mexico's emancipation holidays. There's one on Sept. 16th too!! Either way, it's a great excuse to have Mexican beer and food!!

Someone told me recently (unasked) that it's actually only celebrated in one province in Mexico and is much more prevalent in the U.S.
I don't usually need an excuse to drink but I'll take one anyway, though I'm going to have Jagermeister instead of tequila (shameful, I know: tequila doesn't agree with me at all.)
