TLP recruitment
#1
Hi guys. I've already asked Darchon about this, so the officers may already be discussing it. Can we invite non-TAKP Tems to the Tem guild on TLP?

I have an EQ friend I've been playing with for nearly 10 years across three servers. Elly/Zephyrus/Valeris/Valeria/ and a host of other names. I have been BADGERING him to join Tem on TAKP (Elly and Zeph are 65) but he's always been apprehensive. I asked last night if he'd join Tem on the TLP and he said he would like to.

I met him on P99 in 2017? 2016? when I joined a guild called Auld Lang Syne. By 2017 P99 was very stagnant. The focus of the guild was to simulate a fresh server. So, one could not buy/sell/trade with anyone outside of the guild. Even within the guild, the rule was you had to be within level of the mob that dropped the item to buy it from a guildie. This forced a player to seek out quests and explore zones off the normal levelling railroad of CB/UR/MM/CoM/KC. I was bored with EQ and decided to try it. I was hooked and it re-awakened my love for the game. And that playstyle really gets in one's blood. He was playing Valeris at the time and was an officer in ALS, which is how I met him. He was the one that drug me from P99 to TAKP 5 years later.

We've played EQ and several other games together since 2017. About Val. First, he's a decent, honest guy that is generous to a fault. Generous with his time, knowledge, and loot. Insisting that other group members get items first before he does. Helping friends camp mobs for hours and hours, yet not asking for help for himself. He is an absolute ENCYCLOPEDIA for vanilla content. I was super proud of myself when I discovered a quest he didn't know.

I know Hemp has met Val. He was with me when I met Nark in Sol B during the Anni event 2 years ago. It was Val that had the idea to cast cancel magic on Nark to keep him from Lich-ing himself to death. An event that caused Nark to tell me to contact Neea about recruitment and to tell her that he had sent me.

I guess I'll stop singing his praises.

TLDR: he's my best EQ friend and will only be an asset to Temerity on TLP or TAKP and I'd love for us to wear the same guild tag again.

Maye generally we do not guild tag people until they have gone to their first raid as an applicant. I'd like to better understand why he's apprehensive to joining Temerity on TAKP but not on TLP. I also have hoped we would see his app here but so far there hasnt been much further discussion from what I can tell. Sure guildchat is nice to have, I'm assuming I wont have it for a few days cause I'm playing ogres on TLP, but its a privilege that comes with applying to be a regular member.

These people would get TLP sub-forum access but otherwise wouldn't be guild members.

We foresaw the possibility that there might be the need for something like this, if not quite so quickly! We'll talk it over and see what we can come up with.

Very valid question. And my answer is, I am not totally sure, however, I have suspicions.

I have known him a long time and he is very comfortable in content he knows. He is VERY uncomfortable in content he does not know. Since the TLP is only in vanilla, he will be in his zone. Since Tem was already raiding Time by the time I even joined, he would be doing content he'd never done before. I suspect that would make him so worried about making a mistake, that he is not willing to take the risk.

That and I think joining on TAKP is a time commitment in his eyes, and he likes to play other games with other friends. Again, I don't know, but I suspect he was apprehensive about committing to Tem when he knows he's going to take days or weeks to play other games.

I can ask him directly and see what he says.

Makes sense. Sounds like from Zooks' post that wont be neccessary, and hopefully some time in our guildchat on TLP could warm him to the idea of applying on TAKP

Fingers crossed on both accounts!

Edit to add: I spoke with Elly (Raesyra on TLP) about why he's interested in Tem on TLP but apprehensive to join on TAKP. He said that the leveling portion of the game is fun for him but that raiding isn't as fun. And since Leveling will be the focus of the TLP for many months, he'd like to have some friends to level with.

Makes sense. It's a totally different experience to join a fresh guild vs one that has already cleared all the content in the game.

We'll go ahead and invite Maye's friend.

We'll start out with an easy-come, easy-go philosophy: if you have a good friend you know well whom you want to invite, you may. If it doesn't work out with someone invited on this casual basis, we'll simply ask them to leave.

Please be prudent: if you're grouped with someone once or twice and they seem nice enough, that's a good reason to group with them more, but not a good reason to invite them to join the guild. If you've been grouping with someone regularly for weeks, though, go for it.

I posted on another posts about this issue. So disregard my comments from before.

Well, as things like these usually go, after all of the thought and discussion that was put into this issue, my friend currently can't play on the server.

Very commonly when his toon zones, he just crashes. He's worked with Solar attempting to solve the issue and has so far failed. He can zone just fine on TAKP, but for some reason the TLP is different and some zones just cause his game to crash. Currently, his toon is stuck trying to zone into Crushbone.
As far as solving the issue goes, I'm leaving that up to him. He's annoyed it doesn't work. As am I.
Anyway, thanks for discussing this issue and making a ruling. I apologize for forcing the issue sooner rather than later and then not following through.
I hold out hope the issue will be resolved in the future and he'll come back to the TLP.

I have weird zoning delays on one of my boxes now and then, which doesn't happen on TAKP. It usually just happens to one, I haven't seen it happen to both. However, one thing he should do is add an exception in Windows Defender (assuming he's running Windows) for the game's install folder.
