Language Lessons
#1
I posted about this on eqmac so I figured I might as well mention it here too.

I used to organize language parties, with the goal of learning as much
of as many languages as possible. It is a mostly frivolous skill,
but I like it anyway.

My first try at this will be meeting:
Thursday, Jun 2nd, at 8:30 pm eastern
Qeynos newb area, near the PoK book

This is an open event (not specifically Temerity) but Tems are of course welcome.

If I get much interest, I may do these semi-regularly.
Hi Yeniu,

Good idea. Can I make a suggestion though? Can we do it somewhere
more... um, remote? There are still occasional new players coming on (I
helped a lvl 11 wizard get his corpse from blackburrow last night) and
we may scare them a bit by yelling in orc or elder dragon in a newbie
zone.

Something like Fungus Grove would be good. No newbie would go there,
and its pretty fast to get too. Or marus seru? I never see anyone in
that zone anymore.
I always did language parties in /g so we shouldn't be hassling anyone that isn't a part of it.

(I know it doesn't work in /rs, we tried)

Even if we do it in /say, we'd be up by the zoneline, probably on the
west side. You'd have to be fairly close to hear it.

I'm happy to help in language lessons. Back in my 20's I had a
friend and we spammed each other as we hunted in /gs. I now have
several languages under my belt and would love to increase my skills in
dragon, elder dragon, and a couple others. Languages aren't used
very often with EQ NPCs, and therefore, not often learned, but a
GM did manage to speak in Ogre over the shout channel during the CT
adventure. I was lucky that I could translate for our
group. I'm not sure how important learning language skills are
for EQ, but I'm happy to help and learn more languages in the process.

This went very well, I thought. We were mostly Temerity,
but had Snuffyspaw from the Lollipop Guild too. (I've been
advertising it in the public forums of a bunch of the guilds).
Everyone contributed something, and a lot of learning went on. I
maxed out four more languages (including dragon and elder dragon, woo
hoo!!).

Thanks to everyone who could make it (and especially Nik who made
baby bots just for the purpose of teaching dwarvish, ogre, and
lizardman)

I'll be doing it again sometime soon.

We are having another of these tonight (ThursdaY) starting at
8:30 Eastern, in Northern Qeynos. We can start right next to the
stone, and move up to the Qeynos Hills zoneline in a bit. If we
once get going, we are likely to be there for a few hours, with people
coming and going. All are welcome to join us.

Wow wow wow Viva, That's fabulous!! (I've got five more to go ... next time can you teach
some of those). How late did you all stay??

Yes I thought it was a big success. And we managed not to frighten the
non-Temites that came. (Hissistor had to bow out at the last
second, I am hoping she can make it next time. Thanks everyone
for coming!

We're planning on doing it again, in a week or two, (NOT on a Thursday)

Thanks all who were there for letting me afk and spam, and learn one Beeeeelllion languages.

I had to afk right at 5:30 so Yeniu hooked me up the group and I wasn't sure I got the macro quite right speaking Vah Shir. But anyways, I learned a whole bunch, and have several at 100 that weren't even there before!

and... it looks like if your macro has /lang 6, and you learn new languages, it will start cycling thru to the next language that pops up to #6, so it went from Vah Shir to Troll.

Dr. Zahlittle sez "If I could walk with the elder dragons, talk with the elder dragons...."

-------------------------------------------
Feral Lordess Zahla

Harr the goateed Wizard
