help with my UI?

i figured out how to do a screenshot to my desktop and wondering if people can comment on my setup with windows and such, i've never actually had someone teach me how to play everquest, started like 6 years ago with my buddies as kids and being in Tem is the first time i've seen anything above level 45, so if you're wondering why i am so noobish, bear with me

<a href="http://imageshack.us"><img src="http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/6870/picture12re.png" border="0" width="1024" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us" /></a>

oh, and thanks Soul, Reaper, and Mordor for the experience for my AAs today! still not happy about being a Baron Sad

and TY sikkorak for the cool 250 range throwing darts...only got one left though, so i could use that shissar fang throwing pouch someday if anyone is ever in ssra... i will help

just a couple quick things:

I know its hard when you are on a powerbook, but if you can add at least 1 more window, that might help you.

You can turn off some of the melee, filter rather /filter othersmisses off for example.

One thing I was not aware of for the longest time was /chatfontsize # where # ranges from 1 to... something, 6 maybe? anyways, to use it you have to right click, and choose the 'always chat here' option first, and you have to do it for each window you want to change. If you make the text smaller, you can usually make the window smaller, allowing for more windows.

Text color: especially if you play around with the font size, you might want to make some of your text colors brighter and more noticeable.

thats it for now.

Change your font size. This will also allow you to possibly make another window that you can filter some chatter to.

You didn't say how big your resolution was, so am going by Frer's comment about a powerbook which is what? 1024x768? Am guessing. Opt+W to get rid of the window selector. You really don't need it.

Since you use the Default UI, which is a bit clunky. (Not bad, just not a UI I'd care to use) You can probably find some UI pieces that will help with space. Smaller buffbar, Condensed target/group/hp/xp stuff/hotbuttons, etc, etc.. eqinterface.com is a good place, although you'd need to look through older UI's. Kyth made a good UI that is fairly condensed and very customizable.

Lots of ideas. There's a thread showing various guildies UI setup, which can give you an idea in one of our private forums.

A double column effects window should not be more than 8 gems high, as we can only have 15 gems total. Also, its a bit wider than it needs to be. You can't click target things that are behind the opaque portion of the empty gem window, so minimize that area.

It would really help to get a modified UI that shows percentages for HP. Makes it far easier to tell when the mob is close to enrage and that sort of thing. I've tried to find the previous UI picture thread but haven't been able to.

Turn off spellcasts, no reason for you to see those.

Remember you can make a window entirely transparent. That's what I did with /gu for example (which is why I didn't read Avelyn's hello to me last night, since it takes concious effort to read /gu.)

I put it in a window in the upper left that overlays my 'playing' area, but then make it 0% opaque so you can still see things through it. Putting your mouse on it will make it 100% opaque so you can read it easily.

Or turn off /gu during raids entirely.

You might want to grab the buff bar from my UI, as it's horizontal. Turn off the window selector (alt-W) and put your buff bar across the top -- that will gain you some horizontal space.

For your hits-spam window, and enrage window, if you need: turn off all but your hits, turn off your misses, set the hits mode to the REALLY abbreviated one, and then make a very skinny window and filter ramp, enrage, hits on you, and your hits into that window. That can be a way to 'cheat' and get three windows across the bottom.

Since you never play a healer, you might want to think about makign a very short, small, abbreviated group window where you just see their percentage of health rather than 5 useless bars you don't care about.

Mob percentage is indeed a key thing to have up there Smile.

Sunra probably has some advice to give here, he plays on a small screen too.

This thread has a bunch of screenshots of how people are doing stuff.

The buff bar on Frer's UI is one I modified for him from Kyth's standard. Pretty small and not too laggy.

I can get you links to them, and I'd be willing to fiddle around a bit if you have specific requests.

I've been meaning to post a UI window I made for playing Unhlaeg: His health / mana and the target's health all in one window. Still playing around with it, though. I may simply add the target health to the player window and get rid of the second window entirely.

For your setup, I'd say you can probably get rid of the 'melee attack' button in your hotkey bar, and just use the autoattack ('a' or whatever you remapped it to)

Look into using the /viewport command to reduce overlap of things, as well as the other suggestions in this lag reduction guide and a few other threads you should have read when you were doing your application.

Kyth Wrote:Sunra probably has some advice to give here, he plays on a small screen too.

I'm on a 15" powerbook with 1280x854 resolution. I actually use 6 windows. I'ts hard to believe, but I've got them. If I remember I'll post a screenie of the setup. I use the same setup for all my characters, so some times I pay attention to some of the windows, some times I don't.

At the top I have two transparent windows. One with /auc and emotes (not wure how those two ended up there but they did) One for total spam, crap i never really look at except for the "you cannot attack that from here" or whatever the out of melee range message is.

I have a very tall / thin window on the left side with just my melee numbers. My hits, my being hit and my being missed. Nothing else there.

On the right I have another tall but narrow window (not as narrow as the melee one) showing spells being cast by me, as well as spells being cast by NPCs (so I can see if one is trying to gate).

At the bottom are my two main windows. One with tells / group and one with /gu and /rs / raid channels. I turn off /gu for raids. It is not as "efficient" (or spartan) as some other's UI's but I actually like the look of my UI and just can't go to an plain jane one.

For raids make sure you use /viewport (there is a thread here somewhere on how to use). reducing the screen to fit within your UI windows greatly reduces lag.

Velium fire wedding rings, the necklace and the solstice earring will net you oodles o hps compared to what you have now. (250ish total perhaps, don't have the earring number off the top of my head, but 65 for each ring and necklace and I think 55 for the earring). Lord so many JC people on. Just ask one.

haven't read through all the replys yet so dunno if someone talked about this or not, but one thing i noticed not really about your UI, but your hot keys, why do you have sit hot keyed? command S is sit.

Sit is the way to stand up from a feign death. I imagine that is why he has it hotkeyed and right next to the feign death hotkey.
