Gorenaire vs Druid

I've been looking for a good new soloing challenge for a while; there's only so many times you can kill Lodi. Dragons are always cool, and I thought it was time to notch myself up to Tier 1.

Today's target: Gorenaire

My first attempt was with self-buffs only, just to see if I had any possible chance. The strategy was to pile on the damage shields, and melee to see if I could proc enough mana to pay for heals. It didn't go too badly, I got Gore down to 50% before I was out of mana and evacced.

Second attempt included some chanter haste for more procs, as well as the usual VoQ, symbol, and even a DI. Luckily I didn't end up needing that DI. Having good resists makes her AOEs a joke, resisted all of them even after clicking off a little cold resist to make room for other buffs. Total fight time was around 10 mins, and it was close right until the end. If she hadn't turned to run away, I was out of mana, and would have had to get lucky with a proc to keep going.



What do the numbers look like when a druid tries to tank? Unfortunately, I didn't remember to turn on my log until the fight had started, so this is about 90% of the fight: (Thanks Kwel for the parser)

Yeah, fear that 6.2 DPS of druid melee whoop-ass. I did manage to proc 2800 mana, so that's the real reason to swing that stick around. Oh, and that nuke DPS was just one nuke for a killshot as the cowardly dragon ran away.

You might want to look at the OTHER benefits of the spell...

DEX does affect the proc rate. :p

Is is safe to say that +attack speed will add more chances to proc? Or is that just the gambler's fallacy at work?

procs are based on per minute as far as i can remember. so haste actually decreases your procs per swing. i suppose you could say that increases your total chances to proc, thus reducing the ratio of procs: chance of proc. I.E. your process percentage goes down.

Yeah, it's the dex part that mainly interested me, I think that got lost in the editing. The haste does bump my melee dps from about 4 to an uber 6.2. I had hoped to get a Focus for the 70 dex there, but the shammys were in hiding.

Having more haste does give you more chances to proc, but the game designers didn't want that to effect how much you actually proc. So, the chance to proc on each swing is lowered, and you end up with the same number of procs per minute regardless of haste.

Heh true Utdaan ... as a Cleric, that sometimes gets lost on me, since my own self buff (Yaulp VI) conflicts with Vallon's, and adds a whopping 90 Dex.
