The place was a bit crowded this evening, Caryn thought as she bustled around clearing tables and refilling mugs. Deftly dodging a would-be bottom grabber, she spun around behind the bar. The show was about to begin, and in her experience behind the bar was the best place to be.
First up was a a duo from Western Karanas performing their rendition of Fippy's Demise. They didn't make it through more than 2 verses of this classic ballad before the boos and flying objects drove them from the stage.
Next was a very poorly-dressed high elf with an even worse voice. The crowd concluded it must be an enchanter with an illusion spell in place and chased "her" from the bar very quickly.
As the hubbub died down, a thin man with a slight build slowly took the stage. His face was hidden from view as he tuned his worn-looking lute. As he looked up and peered out at the crowd, his eyes narrowed and a broad smile crept across his face. His confidence quieted the crowd. Caryn thought this must be the quiet before the storm.
The young man ran his fingers across the lute strings. The sound reverberated throughout the bar bringing hushed whispers of anticipation from the patrons.
Lifting his voice above the crowd, he began to sing.
(Lyrics designed to be placed to the music for Toby Keith's "American Soldier")
I'm just tryin' to pull 'em single
Bring 'em in one at a time
Give some mana and some healing.
Crowd control is also mine.
Up and out to get another
I'm all business with my lute.
Yeah I'm dressed up in noob armor,
from my head down to my boots.
I don't do it for the XP, I can kite this stuff all day.
I dont' do it for the glory, I just do it anyway.
Providing action for the party is my resonsibilty.
Yeah I'm real good under pressure, speed pullin's easy for me.
I can't call off the pull I'm stalkin' 'cause the pathing looks all wrong.
I just twist right through the med times, with a heal and a mana song.
You can bet that I stand ready when the adds come pourin' in.
Look, that one there is breaking, I need to go mezz it again.
And I will always do my duty, no matter what the price.
I've counted up the cost.
I know the sacrifice.
Oh and I don't want to die for you, but if dyin's asked of me,
I'll draw aggro with honor, 'cause phat lewt don't come free...
I'm an Antonican Bard, an Antonican!
Between the bad guys and the casters, I will proudly make a stand.
When the party's bored and needs some plat, I'll always do what's right.
I'm out front pullin' mobs for you, now get up here and fight!
An Antonican Bard! Oh, an Antonican....bard...
I'm an Antonican Bard, an Antonican!
Beside the melee and the healers, I will proudly make a stand.
When the party is in jeapordy, I'll always do what's right.
I'll break out my drum and Selo's, and we'll take off in flight.
Antonican Bard, an Antonican.
As he finished his tune, he slipped quietly from the stage and, amid quiet applause and some thankfully received donations, left the bar.
Next up, a magic show featuring a talking monkey and some dude named Vance.
