huh not sure where to post this but here goes.

i just realized that my specialization skills are kinda wacky. Instead of having Specialized alteration high It's capped at 50 and something else is high.

Found out that this affects my healing and that theres a quest to change it. Not sure which one though.

Help?

thats what i get for trying to nuke like a wizard ^_^
Head to the temple of Solusek Ro, and bring a ruby (and 50 gold? the post is unclear). The quest info on Allakhazam.

Once you get the respec, stand around for a bit casting Alteration spells until you get your Alteration specialization up to 51. Then it's safe to go back to casting normally, and you'll get the spec skill up pretty quickly over the course of normal play.

Zorblak
If one changes specialization, does one get to keep the other points in the previous specialization? If so, then do it multiple times!

Al'Kabor's First Evil Paladin!

It wipes everything back down to 49. If you have a few points left over with your class trainer, dump two into Specialize Alteration to get yourself to 51 and then go back to nuking to your heart's content. Still not a bad idea to get KEI and 9s and spam your lowest level Alteration spell (probably a level 1 heal) for a few hours while AFK to get your Specialize Alteration up to a level appropriate number.

Druids might want to check this out also. It's easy to end up with Specialize Evocation while levelling, but Specialize Alteration might be preferred as they end up healing on raids and in groups quite frequently. Or, as one poster at The Druid's Grove so eloquently put it, "I am currently an evocation dr00d because I was a big quad kiter, but now that PoP has KILLED quad kiting and that soloing via Charm Kiting is uberer, I want to change my specialization from evocation to alteration."

Specialization checks are crucial to any caster as they can reduce the mana cost of the spell and also reduce the chance to fizzle. There's a great explanation of Specialization skills at EQShaman.com but teh contr ast on th epage mig ht , mak it hrdd to see or typ e affter yo'ure done reaadidng it..

Question: My spec. skill has been locked at 50 forever. The other four specializations are still at zero as I wanted to ensure that I got alteration over 50 before I started on the others.

Any ideas? The character in question is level 45.

Piamiles Silvershield
Jumjum Mojotroll
Neehie Lowerboom

You have to train a point in each specialization.

Nihilists! Fuck me. I mean, say what you like about the tenets of National Socialism, Dude, at least it's an ethos.
From my experience, specialization lowers the amount drawn from your mana pool by the same amount on every cast of the same spell (rather than doing some kind of check and occasionally giving you a large benefit).

Note that you must have the full amount of mana to start the cast of a spell. On casters I find it hard to use up the last 2% of my mana pool for this reason (switching to very low cost spells helps but is rarely useful).

- Sayre
