Well i Loaded up Everquest and So Far it fells a lot faster then my 867 Quicksilver. I tested it out in DSP and ME Comparing the zone Lag from my Quicksilver to this new machine. on my quicksilver i was not able to move my mouse very well in most zones but the lucin zones was much worse. On the Intel Mac mouse Move very well. Even was able to move the mouse while fighting with SOE NPC names on with about 8 on screen and casting spells. THAT is a Big improvement over my quicksilver. <img src="/forums/images/gpicons/face_happy.gif"> Big test will be on raid tomorrow night

The 2 issues I have had so far are. 1) I can load EQ it moves smoothly zones fast and generally operates as fast or faster than my dual g4 1.25 did. This lasts about 20 minutes then it starts to slowly degrade in speed until it becomes almost unusable. Loggin out and logging back in resets it back to normal. 2) I take alot of pictures with my digital camera and every once in while i convert them to a consistent size and format using photoshop via an action. I get the same slow down effect after about 60 pictures and once again if I close out of photoshop and start up again it resets it and I am off and running for another 60. Saturday I made an appointment at the apple store and took the computer in. The first thing the Genius told me was that the symptoms I experienced are consistent with the emulation layer they used, however the degradation I was experiencing should not have happened until after hours of continuous use. He was able to reproduce both problems very easily in the store on my computer and a computer they had set up at the store. However a third computer ran the photoshop action at full speed ( he didn't want to sit through another EQ install hehehe) with no degredation. (just trying to clarify for my own understanding) So the symptoms (slowdowns) are consistent, but the sharp performance dropoff after X minutes wasn't? That'd be good news then if it was some weird problem specific to that Mac. I think Build was on for more than 20 minutes and he didn't say anything about massive slowdowns, so that might be a good sign. I hope. optimistoptimistoptimistoptimist.... My big fear is that whatever leak there is in the graphics libraries is exacerbated on the intel macs. I think that's where Nik is coming from too. --

From the tests we did which by no means are scientific in both photoshop and EQ it seamed to take increasing amounts of memory over time. The actual time I referenced was just a guess and isn't a static number. The EQ issue seams to appear faster the more you zone so for instance if I stayed in one zone and did tradeskills etc. It wouldn't really cause an issue and I could play for an hour or two ( Tried this once so probably not a good baseline. ). Going from PoK to Nexus to the Bazaar back to the Nexus and finally back to PoK brought it down almost immediately. Wow. Well that's different from the lag we have on PPC -- at least it's different from *my* lag. Zoning has never made anything worse for me, but staying in one zone for a long period or *not* zoning after logging in has (hence why, if I log at a specific spot to be ready for a raid, I log in the zone before the one we're raiding in.) But if the Photoshop performance was seen as different-from-expected then maybe the EQ is too. --

I have 2GB of memory on my mac. I was zoning between POT POK Nexus travel all the way to DSP kill Greens their for over 30 min zone into ME kill a few Mobs in that zone zone back to DSP travel all the way to the Bazaar to check lag in that zone since it always sucked for lag then travel to POT again and zone into POV zone out and travel all the way back to DSP and did some more fighting but having may more mobs on me to test lag again. I never experience any of the Lag Gnat talking about. I also set up EQ Like my Quicksilver with some models off and other stuff that reduces lag and memory usage. Also had server filter on and all spell effects off. I Dont know if i have the same problem Gnat is describing But From reading on the web the more memory you have the happier rosetta is. One problem i have seen and is not related to EQ is tearing of the video when using front row. This is only happing on 20" Imac with the 256 graphic card upgrades. This does not happen if you dont use front row to view your movies or pictures or DVD's.
